I consider myself to have fairly strong self awareness. In other words, when things are not working in my life I usually become aware of it fairly quickly. This was not always the case, I used to suffer for quite a while with the challenges I was facing. Now when the flow stops I catch myself almost immediately and begin to reflect on what is going on. In my Owning Your Voice coaching model which you will see on the left, the bottom left circle represents our "Internal Voice" which represents our mind, thoughts etc. (for more information on the model visit "The Voice of the Individual") The layers of discovery are continuous on this journey which means the learning never stops.

This week I met face to face with my "Internal Voice". Of course this was not the first time we have danced, however, it was a new venue.The venue "Healing Drums" a drop in class for African drumming in Squamish. This is something that I have wanted to do for a while but have not been able to. This week, I was finally able to attend and a part of me seemed to know that I needed to attend. As the session began my internal voice immediately kicked in. You can't do this, you are not coordinated enough, you have to be perfect........What is fascinating about drumming is that it really connects you to and shows you the internal voice. Of course the more in the moment you are the less space there is for your internal voice. As I continued to drum their was lots of emotion present, couldn't really name what it was, the vibration of the drumming seemed to move the emotion up and out though. When we moved on to the second phase and a more complicated pattern that is when it happened. I started to laugh at myself and not take it so seriously. The moment I started laughing, the drumming happened very naturally and easily. As I trusted myself and accepted that this was going to take a while and most importantly, remembered that I was doing this because i wanted it to be FUN, the Internal Voice quickly got pushed to the side.

Wow, what a powerful experience! Now it really makes me think of all the situations in our lives in which we energetically hang on so tightly. Yet the moment we relax a shift can occur which allows joy to return.

What if it scares me to share details of my personal life / goals in a group setting?
Yes, there may be an initial fear in sharing in a group setting. My experience has been that the positive far outweighs the negative. Firstly, you will gain the insight that "you are not alone", their are others who are experiencing the same things you are. Secondly, as trust and safety is built in the group you can access the wisdom and creativity of the group. My job as facilitator / coach is to create a safe environment that allows this to be possible.

$175.00 incl. HST (cost per hour = $25.00 compared to $100.00 per hour for one on one coaching)
